Here’s an overview of kindergarten music classroom activities:
1. We explore the many sounds our voices make: singing, chanting, whispering, speaking, and shouting. We begin developing our singing voices through singing simple songs and tonal patterns. We also develop our concept of rhythm and meter through chants and chanting rhythm patterns.
2. We explore many instruments in our room. Initially, we use simple rhythmic instruments such as rhythm sticks, egg shakers, tambourines, and hand drums. We explore the many ways we can play the steady beat on our instruments. We also begin to use Orff instruments (xylophones) later in the school year.
3. We explore the way our bodies move to music. We explore how we use the energy in our bodies through flow, weight, space, and time. We explore the ways we can move our bodies through walking, skipping, jumping, hopping, and galloping.
