6TH 7TH 8TH GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Course Description: The objective of the physical education program at Weatherford Middle School is to teach children regardless of gender, age, disability or any other factor, developmentally appropriate skills with opportunities to learn fitness for a lifetime. The curriculum will include Health-Enhancing activity development, Motor skill and lifetime Activity Development, and Personal, Social Skill Development based on the Priority Academic Student Skills (Pass), and National Association for Sports and Physical Education (NASPE) benchmarks. These activities are being taught using games, rhythms, and gymnastics. The following skills are included:

I. Physical Education-First Nine Weeks
A. Fitness
1. The learner will acquire knowledge about the fitness principle.
2. The learner will participate in various health related fitness
activities.
B. Football-
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of football.
2. The learner will acquire skills needs to participate in football.
II. Physical Education-Second Nine Weeks
A. Badminton
1. The learner acquires knowledge of badminton.
2. The learner will acquire the skills needed to play badminton.
B. Basketball
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of basketball.
2. The learner will acquire the skills needed to play basketball.
3. The learner will participate in the American Heart Association’s
Hoop
for Heart.
C. Floor Hockey
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of floor hockey.
III. Physical Education-Third Nine Weeks
A. Volleyball
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of volleyball.
2. The
learner will acquire skills needed to participate in volleyball.
B. Table
Tennis
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of table tennis.
2. The learner will acquire the skills needed to
participate in table
Tennis.
C. Tumbling
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of tumbling.
2. The learner will acquire the skills needed to
participate in tumbling.
IX. Physical Education Fourth Nine Week
A. Tennis

Softball/Baseball
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of baseball
and softball.
2. The learner will acquire skill needed to
play baseball/softball.
C. Golf:
Two weeks
1. The learner will acquire knowledge of golf.
2. The learner will acquire skills needed
to play the game of golf.
